Exploring Koh Chang with Resolution Resorts
Dreaming of fresh coconuts, 28 degrees and beautiful sunsets?
Then I recommend you to travel to Koh Chang and to the little islands around.
Koh Chang is the second largest island of Thailand and is part of the Mu Koh Chang National Park. The name of Koh Chang means Elephant Island and comes from the island’s shape of an elephant head. Isn’t this already reason enough to book the trip?
The Resort with the best coconut shake in the world
A coconut a day, palm trees and mangroves everywhere and a double room with sea view… what else could you wish for? Welcome to Resolution Resort Koh Chang!
We received a warm welcome by the young owners Vanessa and Victor. They picked us up from the pier and welcomed us with fresh drinks. We arrived a little earlier than expected but this was not a problem at all – our room was ready in less than 15 minutes! While we were waiting we had lunch next to the sea. I’m absolutely into Thai Food and I always eat local food when I’m in a specific country. And we were not disappointed at all! The food was suuuupppperr delicious! We had some mixed vegetables with fried rice and chicken and of course pad thai. Fantastic!!
After a little turbulent speedboat ride in the morning, it was time for a break. After check-in we spent some time at the pool, sipping fresh coconuts and working on our tan. (and finally the sun came out for 2h!!) I really liked the pool area with a beautiful garden surrounded by palm trees and flowers and a super sweet garden swing where I spent some hours in the afternoon reading a good book.
The stylish white sun beds were super comfy, so we decided to take our time, rest for some hours and postponed exploring the island to a little later in the afternoon.
Did you know that ALL rooms have a sea view? This is definitely a plus! We had a room located in the beautiful garden area with a little terrace. The rooms are simple but furnished with everything you need. In my opinion, the resort is perfect to stay for a couple of days to explore the island or the area around. I put together four things you should definitely do while your stay at Koh Chang.
1. Amazing Views
We are lovers of beautiful sunsets and are always searching for perfect spots to enjoy this special time of the day. As we told this to Vanessa, she was happy to inform us about best places and gave us local insider tips on the activities in this area of the island. What’s better than getting tips from locals, right? Straight away she organised a little private tour, showed us a lovely place in the south of the island only 5 min away from the hotel. As we got there the sun was hidden behind lots of clouds but this fact didn’t kill the moment at all. This view was pretty amazing. Except for some American guys who were fishing we were totally alone and enjoyed sitting on the rocks, watching the waves hitting the cliff. The way up there is a nice sundeck to relax.
2. Local Food, Fresh Juices and Sunset
Next stop was a lovely place called Warapura Restaurant. If the sun would have shown up I am sure sunset would have been truly amazing We went there for some coffee and fresh juices but Vanessa told us that the food should be delicious. So we made sure to go there again some days later and she got so right! I had some Red Thai Curry and Stefan had Pad Thai – both dishes are absolutely a must to try at least once when in Thailand – or in my case everyday (I’m so into Thai food, I told you) However, as we loved it we went there a third time and I was super impressed how the organized the plates – our fried rice was served in a pineapple…it was so yummy!
If you love good coffee you should stop by at Owl Café. They are also offering a small menu and even pizza! Of course, they have great fresh juices but let’s be serious, the Coconut Shakes at the resolution hotel was definitely the best we ever had. They took some pulp of fruit (coconut), put it into a mixer together with some crushed ice and coconut water and filled it back to the coconut. Et voila!
3. Boat trip to pretty little islands
Our second day started with a delicious breakfast. The evening before we crossed all our fingers and hoped for better weather to go on a daytrip by boat to the small islands around. Resolution Resort offers a private boat service that makes it so easy to get to nice beaches, do snorkeling or just go to the fisherman’s village in the close area. We planned to go to Koh Kham, the most beautiful island with a white sandy beach and crystal clear water. This is a private island and the owner wanted to built a resort but for any reason he has to stop it and now there are some non-finished bungalows over there and what else? Nothing – it is super quite – so it’s far away from mass tourism and a perfect spot for snorkeling by the way. Unfortunately sun didn’t show up and some rain was on the agenda for the afternoon. I hope we can do this anytime when we are back in this area.
4. Explore the beaches
…That’s why we changed our plans and made the best out of it. It turns out that this plan was excellent I recommend to go to Lisca Beach which is only 10 min from the Resort – it is a small beach but nice for some sunbathing or having some fresh drinks at the coolest beach bar run by an Italian guy. If you are searching for a nice beach you can reach Khlong Phrao / Kai Beach after some kilometers which are the best ones on the island of Koh Chang. A little more north you’ll find the well-known white sand beach which is a bit more crowed than the other ones but as I already said there is no mass tourism on all of the islands in this area – so I am sure even in peak season where we’ve been you’ll not be bothered by other tourists at all.
Also Lonely Beach is not too far away and is worth to visit..
..I wished we could have stay longer as the island has so many hidden gems and pretty sights, that you really should explore!
How to get to Koh Chang
Best way is to book a flight from Bangkok to Trat and continue travelling by ferry or speedboat to Koh Chang. Of course there are boat transfers from the islands around like Koh Mak or Koh Kood as well. The Team of Resolution Resort will organize the pick up from any pier you arrive. Just tell them in advance – it’s so easy isn’t it?
